How abs works ?

abs(-4.9) ?

If the the number is < 0 (less than zero) multiply by -1 else by 1(or simply don't multiply).
For Math.abs(-4.9) the answer would be +4.9. ( the + plus wouldn't be visible) or simply the answer would be 4.9.

Well you haven't specified the intial value that i contains. Well in your code if i is any number greater than 0 the result will be positive and for else it will be negative. Though there are two cases where this won't happen and two cases are when you use Math.abs(Long.MIN_VALUE) and Math.abs(Integer.MIN_VALUE) these two would not return a ositive number but would return the orignal MIN_VALUE.
