HI All,

I am a developer who has coded in other languages such as the prehistoric one Cobol, and also C. I did do Java many years ago in 1998 for about 6 month internship.

I am looking to get back into Java, and while I understand programming languages, I am not a Java programmer. I am just studying Java and hoping to do the SCJP5 certification soon. Just wondering do you really need to be very very fluent in Java to sit the exam? Has any Java beginner with more theoretical than practical knowledge passed it? While I am writing programs along the way and getting to know the syntax well, since I dont work in it I doubt I will become very fluent in Java before sitting the exam. I am studying the Head First Java book right now, plan on moving onto the SCJP Kathy Sierra book since everyone is raving about it.

Any help, suggestions and support is much appreciated.

Thanks.

Hi,

I dont think their is any use of attaining the SCJP if you do not want to know the practical aspects of it.

Any how.

Answer is yes you can do it, its very easy with not much of problem but do one thing buy one simulator and practice on it before sitting in the exam.

Hey Marc,

Just realised that it gets reflected once you post something.
Thanks.

Hi,

SCJP will add value to resume but not to you.

You will get a call but it'll more diffcult for you to clear the interview because than you need to know in-n-out of core java.

Just think about it.
