Since SCJP 6 has been released (see http://www.sun.com/training/catalog/courses/CX-310-065.xml) I wonder if people who are currently studying for SCJP 5, will actually go for SCJP 6 instead. As far a I know there aren't any SCJP 6 books yet. Looking back when the other upgrades happened, I suppose it typically takes about a year for new books to be released.

On the other hand, SCJP 6 is probably not that radically different. No new syntax or language rules. A quick glance at the objectives tells that you have the know about the NavigableSet, NavigableMap and Console classes, which weren't in 5. These can easily be looked-up in the regular API or any regular Java 6 book. Of course, there may be other differences between SCJP 5 and 6, I didn't compare the objectives exhaustively.

So, will you all go for SCJP 6 now or will the majority still be taking SCJP 5?

Heheh, sure, you wouldn't change to another version of the exam in just one day.

But what about people who plan to take the exam in a few weeks?

Thinking of it, if you had already ordered the SCJP 5 voucher, would you be able to swap it for SCJP 6 if you didn't took the test yet?

Sun exam vouchers are valid for any exam of the same price, so you should already be able to register for the SCJP 6 using any voucher you may have originally purchased for SCJP 5.

That's interesting. A co-worker of my happens to have registered for SCJP 5 and might want to change to SCJP 6 instead.

I wonder about books for SCJP 6. Of course one can just read an SCJP 5 book and based on the objectives catch up on the missing Java 6 stuff by reading whatever other book, but I think most candidates would feel more secure by just going with an SCJP 6 book.

Surely authors like Bert have known for some time that SCJP 6 would be released the other week, so in theory an updated book could be ready or almost ready (this is in contrast though with the typical year it took in the past for a new book to be released). Anyone (preferable Bert himself ) knows anything about this?
