Difference between two array declarations

Scenario 1:
static final int a[];
static { a = new int[2];
a[0]=1;
a[2]=2;
}

Sceanrio2 :
static final int a[];
static void int
{
a = new int[2];
a[0]=1;
a[2]=2;
}

Sceanrio1 complies fine but scenario 2 gives error.
Can anyone explain me difference between two please

Static initializers are not defined to return a type, or take a type, etc. The "void int" keywords are not part of a valid Java syntax.

Your second scenario is giving an error because of a syntax problem. But let's suppose you changed "int" to a valid method name like "init" and added some parenthesis. Now the difference is this: A final static variable must be assigned its value when the class is initialized. This happens using a static block, which executes when the class is loaded, but does not happen using a static method, which might never be called.
