Using ImageIO to read / write from / to different formats. Every format ( bmp, jpg, png ) work except gif. What do I need to get gif format to work.

I see now that I do not have a gif image writer. If I can find one how do you register it with ImageIO?

There's one right here. The page has instructions.

I actually found an implementation here:

http://java.freehep.org/index.html

I don't know if one or the other is better or not. BTW, why can you read gif in the sun implementation, but cannot write?

GIFs are kind of deprecated, and until last year they used to be encumbered by patent issues. PNG is a much better format in many regards, and is supported in just about all graphics applications these days, including all web browsers.
