JSP-centric, and not so good?

I was green with J2EE stuff when I started here, but I've come to see that it looks like most of our site is JSP-centric. There were 2 or 3 dozen JSPs and a bunch of "back-end" Java beans and other classes, but generally when users were submitting forms they would be posting to the same or another JSP and not to, say, a servlet. I assume that it would be more towards a Model 2 architecture to be posting to servlets, and it would probably be a little cleaner and more maintainable. Am I right?

There's a lot to be said for the architectural order and flexibility of a Model 2 pattern over the JSP-centric Model 1. If you find yourself contorting to make things work, or spending more time debugging than coding, might be time to consider a refactoring.
