would anyone know of a tutorial, online reference, or even a good book which explains how to use EJBs for distributed processing?

What do you mean, exactly? EJB's support distributed processing, so what are you trying to accomplish?

I am trying to write a program to load balance webapps on a linux cluster and also another one that can distribute work to many machines (kind of like the SETI project).
These are both school projects and I want to create something of my own and not use scripts/programs that others have written already.
I dont quite understand EJB so I want to read up a little and see if this is possible. From my initial impressions, it seems like it is? Im not sure.
