For authentication why cannot we use conventional approach in checking the validity of the user and use some sort of code so as to authorize the user. What are the special benifits of JAAS? where can we utilize JAAS at a maximum extent.

JAAS is just an abstraction on top of such security modules. It defines an interface. It is a pluggability layer like say JAXP. You can configure multiple login modules, change parameters to login module through the jaas config file. It does allow you to specify multiple login modules and specify which of them is mandatory, optional etc.
