Please, Forgive my lack of information. Can somebody tell me briefly what is seam in general. As an example of the brief answer i'm looking for, if the question is "what is tomcat?", the brief answer would be "it's a web container.".

Seam is kind of an web application framework directed to support and greatly enhance the EJB3 stack.

You can certainly use Seam as a web framework. But it is really an integration framework that ties together over a dozen popular open source enterprise frameworks (Hibernate, jbpm, drools, itext, quartz etc etc) and make their functions accessible through simple annotations.
