I cannot figure it out:

(code is placed in a servlet)

and output is:

toString:
java.util.GregorianCalendar[time=1119172200000,areFieldsSet=true,areAllFieldsSet=true,lenient=true,zone=sun.util.calendar.ZoneInfo[id="America/Los_Angeles",offset=-28800000,dstSavings=3600000,useDaylight=true,transitions=185,lastRule=java.util.SimpleTimeZone[id=America/Los_Angeles,offset=-28800000,dstSavings=3600000,useDaylight=true,startYear=0,startMode=3,startMonth=3,startDay=1,startDayOfWeek=1,startTime=7200000,startTimeMode=0,endMode=2,endMonth=9,endDay=-1,endDayOfWeek=1,endTime=7200000,endT imeMode=0]],firstDayOfWeek=1,minimalDaysInFirstWeek=1,ERA=1,YEAR=2005,MONTH=5,WEEK_OF_YEAR=26,WEEK_OF_MONTH=4,DAY_OF_MONTH=19,DAY_OF_YEAR=170,DAY_OF_WEEK=1,DAY_OF_WEEK_IN_MONTH=3,AM_PM=0,HOUR=2,HOUR_OF_DAY=2,MINUTE=10,SECOND=0,MILLISECOND=0,ZONE_OFFSET=-28800000,DST_OFFSET=3600000]

format:
2005-06-19 02:10:00

Why does the toString output show month is 5 but the format output shows month is 6 ???

hello,

the outputs are not contradicting. format shows that it is june, and toString outputs Calendar.JUNE, which is an int constant with the value 5.

Month has a range of 0-11 (jan-dec) in Calendar and when you do a formated output it will be shown as the right month number.
