The API for JFileChooser has an excellent code example describing how to build and use a JFileChooser. Also, as part of the JDK installation you got the src for the Swing Set demonstration. Look into the file C:\jdk1.3\demo\jfc\SwingSet2\src\FileChooserDemo.java for an example of the various things you can do with a JFileChooser.
