Hi,

I'm confused about a thing at the Saloon .. Below each page there is a footer which has the statement

All times are in your local time zone & format. Current ranch time is Friday 12:47, US Mountain time (GMT-7).

But there is no place where I can set my time zone - or did I miss it ?

Regards ..

Time calculations are done on the desktop using JavaScript. The browser knows your timezone already; there's no JavaRanch-specific timezone setting. If you need to change it, then use your system's preferences (i.e., Windows control panel) to do so.

I think there is something strange going on. I'm using Ubuntu and Fedora - both have time zones set to Asia/Calcutta i.e. GMT +5.30

However, firefox still reports Mountain Time GMT -7 for the JavaRanch Saloon. Is this time thingie compatible with IE only ? Or is there something which firefox or linux is doing differently than expected by JavaRanch ?

I've changed the message you're looking at, so it now says:

All times above are in your local time zone & format. The current ranch time (not your local time) is [current time], US Mountain time (GMT-7).

I hope that is clearer.
