I saw something like this listed as a session at JavaOne, myself, but other than that, I haven't seen any information on it.
It sounds interesting at least.

As I have already passed my SCJP and my SJCD, I have been asked if I would like to participate in this beta examination. Please note that this is invitation only, so if you have not received an email from the relevant sources, you are unable to participate.
Unfortunately, I have no other information. So I can't even tell you if this will become an actual exam or it is just an idea which will be put on the back burner for a while.
For the moment, my recommendation is to take the SCJP and the SCJD and then consider whether it is waiting for this exam (if it ever appears) or take the SCEA (for which I am currently revising).

There was a seminar held about it within the states.
Unfortunately, I have not been able to find any other information on www.javasoft.com.

Hi,
I would suggest you go for the Jcert Certification. This Certification has been formed by leading IT organizations across the globe, including IBM,Oracle,Sun, Netscape.
It includes the set of 5 tests :

  1. Level 1 - Sun Certified Java Programmer
  2. Level 2 - "Vendor" Certified Solution Developer

    • Object Oriented Analysis and Design with UML
    • "Vendor" specific test - For Oracle, it is Oracle JDeveloper Release 3.0 - Develop Database Applications with Java. For IBM , it is Visual Age for Java, Version 3.0, Profesional Edition or Websphere Application Server, Standard Edition
    • Level 3 - "Vendor" Certified Enterprise Developer

      • Enterprise Connectivity with J2EE
      • "Vendor" specific test - For Oracle, it is Enterprise Development on the Oracle Internet Platform. it is Visual Age for Java, Version 3.0, Enterprise Edition or Websphere Application Server, Advanced Edition

      • I suppose these tests cover the Objectives (JSP/Servlets/EJB/CORBA/Vendor Specific features) in greater depth and makes you make productive from the Organization point of view, as you have mastered the tool that is doing well in the market.
        Hope this helps.
        Regards,
