Static methods and JSP

Are static methods in a JAVA object not thread safe in JAVA/JSP environment. Our Architect asked us to convert all the static methods to instance ones - the reason being they're not thread safe in JAVA/JSP/IPLANET environment

If those methods are manipulating static variables then you need to synchronize those methods otherwise not. Bottom line.. they are as thread safe as you want them to be.
