i want to display a report in word format or pdf format.how can i open that files and display.that pdf shold be in differnet window not inside browser.

If this is a silly answer is because I didn't understand your question. Can't you just create an hyperlink with an target="_blank"?
that will open a new window, and since it is a file, a default program will open your pdf/word.
If you have to generate your reports in different formats, then have a look at XML FO.
