Session not expiring even tomcat is restarted

Hi i am using tomcat 5.0 and struts based application is deployed over it i have added a servlet filter for validation of session.Now if tomcat is restarted it is not expiring session. I have checked settings from tomcat admin but nothing unusual. Can any one suggest something Thanks

Tomcat serializes all the session data to a file called SESSIONS.ser under {tomcat}/work/Catalina/localhost/{your app name}/.
When it starts up again, it de-serializes that file.

If you delete that file after shutting Tomcat down, the sessions will be gone when it starts up.
