hi, I post this in socket forum, get no answer.
I connect my two computers together using LAN. I can see the shared file in PC (win 98) from PC (win 2000), but I could not see the file in win 2000 from win 98. Should I setup anything in NETWORKING in PC (win 2000), or the two are not compatable? Please help. Thanks

What type of lan software are you using. In theory there should not be a problem doing this.

I suspect there are default security options in Win2K which must be changed.
Remember, 2K is an NT derivative, and as such has 'built-in' security. 98 is essentially a Win3.1 derivative, and as such is 'wide-open' (i.e. has essentially no security at all).
Suggestion: In 2K, set up a userid/password which exactly matches your 98 userid/password. Give that userid appropriate permissions. I currently do not have a 2K system, so cannot give more specific advice.
Luck and Regards, Guy

win2000 gets full access to win98 (if you share your folders/directories) but win98 cannot access win2000 unitl you setup "user access" on win2000.
i am not at my win2000 machine at the moment, but i will see what i can remember...
you need to go to "administrative tools" on win2000 and find where you create new users. then, you need to create a user with the same name & password as your win98 machine... it needs to be exactly the same.
once win2000 has your win98 user in the list, win98 will be able to access your win2000 files.
