difference between the servlet life cycle method and jsp lifecycle method

what is the difference between the servlet life cycle method and jsp life cycle method?

int i=10;
i=i++;
System.out.println(i);

O/P is 10???why ???

jsp's gets translated to servlet .java file then servlet .java files get converted to .class files then it has the same life cycle of that of a servlet.
