If I do some development using some J2EE classes, and compile it into a jar file for deployment - is it necessary for the receiving machine to have downloaded the J2EE API stuff? Or once it has a JVM, can it run any java code you give it?

The classpath can point at a remote JRE - is that what you mean?
The jar only contains classes that you specifically put in there.

If this jar file contains classes that perform a certain function, can I run them on the machine that's never had the sdk or jre installed on it?
Thanks.
Paul
