Transfering Files On Server

I need to move files from one directory to another (development folder to production). This is a Linux system. Someone was telling me it is not to difficult to run a shell script from Java.

If this is the case I think it would be a pretty easy solution.

Is there any other solutions people have used for this situation?

You may be thinking of the Runtime.exec() method which can be used to execute shell commands-- something like

Runtime r = Runtime.getRuntime();
r.exec("mv file /prod...");

I've simply just used the File.renameTo() method to move the file where I want it.

Note that File.move() to is platform-independent since it is part of the Java API. Running a command with Runtime.exec() can potentially break your code if it is moved to a different machine with even a slightly different operating system configuration.
