how to use java to retrieve sth that is particular to a specific computer?

say, the hdd serial number...

basically, i have a piece of java program that is to be distributed to my clients' pc running MS Windows. The program will connect to a server. And i want to differentiate/identify on the server side that the connection is from a specific authenticated client.
