Environmentalists vs the trashers :
===================================
The environmentalists do not make money from protecting the environment as they predicted.
Changing World Technologies are touting a machine that turns organic waste into oil, the realisation of the futuristic vision of Back to the Future's II "MR Fusion" the trash bin cum energy source. Which would mean even more waste needs to be created.
Even the environmentally unfriendly Americans are putting in bids for a plasma convertor trialing in Japan, converting even hazardous waste..
The Future is Waste even if natural oil runs out eventually. But then no one's really sure it will any time soon like in this century. The number of barrells predicted seem to rise over time.
What's this Knowledge Economy if oil and/or waste is going to be driving it ?

Oil is organic waste to begin with. If we can simply accelerate the conversion process, behold! science at work.
It remains to be seen whether this actually works.
Environmentalism is not entirely obstructionist, you know. In much the same way that the oil industry isn't entirely greedy schmucks.

Oil No end of black-gold in sight. Did the Stone Age end because of lack of stones ? Or the Iron Age , the lack of Iron ?
Jungle Economics There is no second ,third or fourth generation timber on the markets any more as there should be. Socially responsible investing is all the rage (social dividends) but the forests do not benefit. And few companies see the benefits of the green gold. It's far easier to make a computer simulation of the chemical makeup of plants in labs.
But the oil too will eventually give way to more cost effective and convenient (lab) tech.
Oil from reserves will sooner or later be looking schmuckier and schmuckier (in Michael's words).
