I'm not sure what setting the path has to do with the Java documentation. I don't think you can just download "bits" of the documentation - it's all or nothing.

Here's a link to the Java documentation from where you can download the docs.

Java 2 SDK Documentation

Once you download the docs, just unzip the files into a directory and start from the index.html file (I think). I generally don't use the html version of the Java docs. I use a HTMLHelp version as it has better searching capabilities.
