Applets and Java Web Start???

It seems that Applets and Java Web Start are not widely used in the industry. If it is tue, I will skip the chapters about these two technologies to save some time....

In my experience, WebStart actually is widely used. But as it doesn't require you to program very differently (you just need to be carefull with ClassLoaders and the like), you could probably defer reading about the details until you need it. Getting an idea about what it actually is couldn't hurt, though. (Ditto for Applets, of course.)
 
Don't get me started about those stupid light bulbs.
