Several times I was searching for something else on the Internet and I was given sites of the Soviet emigrants who continued their mount climbing habits here and then died. This just piss me off. if you don't know local conditions, then don't go, what's the matter?

Here is the last one:

Ilya Jkrasik, 42
Irina Libova, 23
Vladimir Smirnov, 29

Like if I was searching for it...

Ah, as a Russian poet said, "there is only one thing that is better than the mountains -- the mountains that you have not explored yet."

Tom: It looks like gibberish to me:

Tragical proishestvie on mountain Orizaba Communique of a tourist club " the Black Climber " On December, 28, 1999 all six participants of a climbing campaign have safely ascended on top of peak Orizaby. On a return way, during descent from mountain the sheaf from three person was gone. To me to, but at least it's Cyrillic gibberish. In Mozilla, Firefox, and Opera anyway. I gave up trying to get IE to find the proper font, which is obviously already avilable to the other browsers. In any event, the page does seem to correctly indicate that the charset is koi8-r. What browser are you using?

Perhaps the problem is that one doesn't always know what it is that one doesn't know? I can imagine people who become extremely competent at dealing with a particular type of environment, and thus very confident, being unfortunately overconfident when they move to a different environment with superficial similarities. (Just guessing of course since I have no info other than Maps posts here.)

Easily solved. Stick a Chinese restaurant up on the mountains these unfortunates like to haunt. And get it digitally mapped , even if the only likelyhood is of an alien flying saucer jockey dropping by for a chicken in black bean sauce. It's easier to get locations digitally mapped and periodically scanned if there's a Chinese restaurant in the vicinity.

All the technology of top secret soviet spy missions now at your fingertips as long as also included are directions to a Chinese restaurant.

Heck if they just e-mail me I could tell them local conditions (local to them not me).

Anyone bet on a horse to lose lately ?
