Users having quota of 6 MB haven't been given 100 MB, users with 4 MB have been upgraded. One of my yahoo account with 4 MB is now 100 MB , other with 6 MB is still the same>

I got the 100 MB, as I'm too cheap to buy something cool when I can have something ok for free.

The various solutions out there for an "infinite mailbox" all stem from a hierarchical storage management (HSM) solution. In short, all the crap you insist of keeping but rarely access finds its way onto a cheaper, slower media until it's called up. The index to such archivia are kept in memory, but you still pay some time for the lookup and retrieval.

Scaling that to hundreds of thousands of users compounds the problem of maintaining a snappy request-response time lapse. But hey, that's the usual tradeoff. You want more space? Gonna cost you some time to traverse it. You want to save time? Cool, but you'll 'waste' space to achieve those savings.

If I didn't have people that were so hooked to MSN Messenger that I talked to (friends, family) I would be able to drop the last MS crutch I have. I don't even go to MSNBC for news anymore.

The problem with yahoo is, it is impossible to get for free email address I want even though it appears not to be taken by anyone. I can't have firstName_lastName@yahoo.com but I have no problem getting firstName_lastName@hotmail.com.

Yahoo forces something like this firstName_lastName2003@yahoo.com which I don't like.

StaraSzkapa@yahoo.com doesn't appear to be taken. Now's your chance.

Actually, it looks like the problem isn't necessarily with Yahoo: Akamai DNS problem affected large sites. It is kind of strange that this issue occurred on the same day as the Yahoo upgrade though...

You know, if you really need the Email space, you could just use www.spymac.com. They offer:

1 GB e-mail account
250 MB of space to upload pictures in the Spymac Gallery
100 MB free space on Spymac Hosting with WebDAV access*
Free iCal Hosting (both public and private)*
Access to the Spymac Forums and Shoutbox
Your very own Spymac Blog*
Access to the Spymac Auctions
The ability to create your very own personal Gallery and Forum
POP3 Access

All for free!

It's a little slow, but that could be the issue mentioned above, plus they have a huge user base. And it looks like the backend is Perl.

Mine got upgraded to 100MB today. My Yahoo Briefcase is still 30MB, which is even smaller in space than Email... It seems I should better move my files from Briefcase to EMail, which is 3 times larger....

Seems to be somewhat random - my account was converted well after most of the other announcements here, and the site is currently behaving very slowly. I'd guess they're dealing with a lot of technical problems as a result of all the conversions, and moving as fast as they can.

Although both my accounts 6 and 4 MB have been upgraded I've seen that for people from other regions this has not been the case. So maybe they are upgrading it regionally.

For international (Non US) users it might help trying to login using "mail.yahoo.com" instead of your regular international one. Also try changing your region settings to some part of USA...might work this way
