Not sure if this is best forum for this but...

Question 1:
I noticed that there was talk of doing an icq channel for javaranch but (from the thread I had read some time back) they decided it would require too much time to monitor which is fair enough. Can you folks give me some recommendations for such a place that's focus is java and/or linux that has the cool community aspect that this site has? I've of course checked out many channels on various networks but none of them have the , well, charm that this site has!

Question 2:
Is there a community (this is really a second part to the first question) that is geared towards Java used along with Linux?

Question 3:
I live in the East Bay (by Oakland, Ca). Are there any java groups, SIG's, etc., that meet in the East Bay (or anywhere close to it)? I'd be willing to travel down to say Milpitas or up to Marin. I'm turning into a lab rat loner! If not, I've already considered putting one together myself and have a couple folks waiting to hear back from me. Input please? Thanks all.

On http://community.java.net/ you can find a lot of different Java communities focussing on different topics. For example, have a look at the Java User Groups community, there you might find a JUG close to you.
