Quick Explaination of ! Please?

Hello,

I have this for a line of code..

(!list[i].getLevelsRegion().equals(thisRegion))    

Im just not sure what the ! means, I know that != means not equal to..
I looked up Java Operators and seen this, but dont understand it.

! Logical compliment operator; inverts the value of a boolean

If anyone can explain it to me, that would be great!

example,

  
 
1.  if(!true){
         // it  wont execute thats !true=false
}
 
2.  if(!false){
         // it  executes thats !false=true
}
