short answer: no


it's unlikely to come anytime soon,
power consumption and heating issues become more problematic when you add CPU count or speed,
that's a huge issue for laptops,

There are rumblings on some Mac rumor sites about early 2009, although I think that's fueled more by wishful thinking than anything substantial. As Bill said, the short answer is that no one knows.

The firs few quad laptops from other makers have been released recently. They are all expensive, bulky, and noisy. Apple won't release one until something more elegant can be engineered, and that will take time. It's not going to happen overnight!

Personally, I wouldn't mind Apple sticking to the existing CPU power if that would mean longer battery life, cooler operation, quieter fan, etc.

It's not the CPU that's the bottleneck with my usage profile so I'd rather see improvements in other dimensions than performance.
