Hi,

I've never seen an e-book reader and had only heard of Sony and the Kindle until I googled this overview of e-book devices.

For me it's hard to imagine opening up one of those things and taking a big satisfying sniff. There's nothing like the smell of a book.

Though, I have to admit, there have been times when I wished a dead tree book was searchable (beyond the index)...

Do let us know how you do with your shopping and reading experiences!

Cheers,
Pauline

Hi Pauline,

I agree your saying,

There's nothing like the smell of a book

However, there are difficulties in carrying heavy weight books during travel. Of-course I'm not a Heavy Weight Champion ... And the limitation of number of books that can be carried along with us.

I have already gone through the link you have provided, in fact.

Finally the costing part when go for physical book compare to eBook !!!

All force me to look for a ebook reader.

Others have any thought on this....

FWIW - I just happened to stumble on the the kindle version of one of our books on Amazon - apparently it's selling pretty well from a kindle perspective. What's interesting to me is that from an author's perspective the fact that the book could be kindle-ized was totally transparent.

However, I guess, Kindle has limited support for ebook formats, especially PDF versions. They prefer their own proprietary format. Not sure how easy it is to convert other format of ebooks into Kindle preferred format.

Moreover, I'm not too sure whether I can buy and use Kindle in Singapore. Have many questions whether Amazon has support & network coverage in Singapore. Hope they are doing good in US.

Any idea on this?

Thanks.

Maybe wait for Plastic Logic reader (http://www.plasticlogic.com/). It probably will be better than all existing e-book readers.

what a great idea! Definitely the next big thing thats going to change the world for the better. Beyond the positive repercussions on the environment over time it would also allow access to education to all people around the world. Wish more organizations would get behind this concept.

I can't wait anymore for PlasticLogic reader.... so purchased Sony PRS 700BC. It looks cool, so far no issue. The PDF versions of gift books I received from Javaranch are looks great with Sony reader.

I will surely try the color version of Plastic logic reader once it is available after few years later

Joel Salatin has signs on his property that say "Trespassers will be Impressed!" Impressive tiny ad:
