My mom has one and likes it although I remain skeptical. In particular, I hear it has trouble with rugs or when the floor switches from a hard floor to rugs.

I was thinking of getting one for myself, too. Amazon has reviews from more than 200 consumers of Rumba, and they are overall 4 stars out of 5. Here are the links for your convenience:

dude..i have one and i luv it...its the perfect utility for a bachelor-pad. And regarding adjusting to carpets and hard floors - mine does not have any problems doing it...one more cool accessory u get is the "infra-red virtual wall"...very useful when u dont want ur roomba to go over watery surfaces like in bathrooms...i wud say go for it!!

I got one as a wedding present. All I wish is that I got the new version of it with the timer.

I have hardwood floors with 6 birds and we never have to lift up a broom anymore to clean up their seeds and feathers that normally cover the floor. We normally run it once a day with the virtual walls set up around the cage area and it cleans up the area with no problems.

Plus it can go underneath my bed and clean which is rather cool.

I would not get it for high/loose ply carpets.
