Hi!

I have been thinking of buying an iPod for sometime now. Can anyone compare iPod to Creative Zen and tell me which will be a better option?

Thanks

If you like to show-off, then this is a no-competition. iPod was and still is "HOT" and a "MUST-HAVE".

Hello "Tintin Herge"-

You may have missed that JavaRanch has a policy on display names, and yours does not comply with it. Specifically, obviously fictitious names are not allowed. Please adjust it accordingly, which you can do right here. Thanks for your prompt attention to this matter.

In that previous thread, I wrote...

Pros (Creative 40GB Zen Nomad Xtra over iPod):
- Better sound
- More memory (30GB was the biggest iPod at that time)
- Less expensive
- Pretty good rip-CD-to-device software

Cons (iPod over Creative):
- Hard to convert songs from iTunes to MP3 for the Creative
- Fewer accessories for Creative
- You won't be part of the hip iProduct crowd
- The menu navigation buttons on the Creative aren't as nice as iPod's
- The Creative is slightly bulkier than the iPod.

I just bought my wife the Creative "Zen Sleek" for her birthday.
  • It has "only" 20 GB of drive space, which is still more than enough to hold our entire CD collection.
  • It's comparable in size to an iPod of similar capacity. (The iPod is taller and wider but not as thick.)
  • As expected, the sound for this Creative product is better than that from an iPod.
  • The hardware for the controls are much improved over the Zen Nomad Xtra I commented on earlier. They are now comparable to the iPod's.
  • The Zen Sleek has a built-in FM radio.
  • The Zen Sleek has a built-in microphone and recorder. You can even record the radio.
  • The Zen Sleek is cheaper than the comparable iPod.

  • I hope this helps.

TinTin was a regular here long ago, when we had a policy of not enforcing the real name requirement in MD. However that policy changed, what, a couple years ago I think? So now that you're back, TinTin, we'd really prefer a real name. Thanks.
