Hi.

I have just started the preparation for SCEA Level 1 with book SCEA by Mark Cade and Simon Roberts .
I read through the 1st chapter. While skimming through UML, I thought I could cross check the exam's objectives from sun's website "http://www.sun.com/training/catalog/courses/CX-310-052.xml".

I came to know that the syllabus is not exactly matching the book. I am confused on how to go ahead with the preparation on this. Can anyone please help me on this ? Do I need to read through all the chapters in that book and then map it with the objectives ?

Please guide me in proceeding on this
Thanks & Regards
Bala

*Sigh*, I don't understand why Sun don't include preparation resources in website which they used to include in SCEA 5 Beta website.

I used to suggest books in other topics, I will suggest again when I have time.

I would suggest to do the following....

Anyhow, GOF Design Patterns and Core J2EE patterns are part of the new objectives. So, please start to read these 2 books thoroughly first. And as you prepare, please participate in this forum and you will get better understanding by that time, what else needs to be prepared.

Other ranchers, please say what you feel.

Also, let everyone know that is there any new book coming up for the new objectives and is the new edition of Core J2EE Patterns expected soon?

Regarding the design pattern, I used to study Headfirst Design pattern book. I feel each design pattern explain with simple example and interesting also. But not sure how far helpful for examination point of view because the size of the book is around 600 pages. It might take time to complete this book. But Good one.

I am also preparing SCEA part I.

Any suggestions are welcome.

But Good one.

Yes, but it only contains some of the patterns, not all of them.

When you say not all of them, does it mean not all patterns that are part of the syllabus, or just "not all of the common patterns" in general ?
I am also reading Head First Design Patterns for this exam.

Another question:
The Cade's book edition that I have is EJB 2.0 based whereas I heard that SCEA 5 has EJB 3.0 questions not EJB 2.0.
Has there been a newer edition of Cade's book that covers EJB 3.0 ?
Although I know that one Book is never enough for such an exam, but I always thought that Cade's book gives you quite a fair idea of what topics specifically need to be covered. For eg. it might not explain a pattern well, but if that pattern is mentioned in Cade's book, then it is most likely part of the syllabus, and if it isn't mentioned, then it is not.
Do I have wrong information ?

Not all patterns in objectives, and I haven't heard about "common patterns", what you mean by "common patterns"?

Should be wrong, unless Cade's book guarantee that there will be no questions about patterns other than that mentioned in the book.

SCEA 5 syllabus guide very clearly says "Patterns are limited to those documented in the book - Alur, Crupi and Malks (2003). Core J2EE patterns: Best Practices and Design Strategies 2nd Edition"
In the next bullet item it similarly says for the Gang-Of-Four book.

Let me know if I am wrong on this.

When I say not all of them, I mean not all of the GoF patterns. And as the objective is to know all GoF patterns, this book is not enough.

I think you are looking for this book. This covers SCEA 5 objectives.
