Incorrect version shown by java -version command

Hello,
I have installed sun-java6-jdk on a Linux machine . However, when i run java -version it shows the following information :


Why does it show an incorrect version ? . Is there any way to fix this ?

Sounds like you may have more than one JRE installed. Does "which java" point to the newly installed JRE?

add the new jdk/jre to your "path" variable or the JAVA_HOME variable
