Extended Persistence context can not be propagated with the Tx, which is obtained from app-managed entity manager.

You can find a rough explanation in the following link (Tx propagation in the Whizzlabs question means the same as Tx Assocaition in the link).

In order to learn the whole (complex) concept of tx propagation, I suggest reading the corresponding section in Pro EJB 3 or in JPA spec (section 5.6).
