Hello,

I saw since last 2 to 3 month java ranch become to slow. generally it require 3 to 4 minute to load page. I an getting bored and avoid to place reply.

I think this is problem and make it fast I don't know why but you have to work on it.

There were some intermittent problems with the site, but the last of those was resolved several weeks ago. Since then, the site has been consistently fast and responsive. I'm sure we would have heard from more people (not to mention all the moderators) if this was a general problem. Are you sure it's not a problem with your network connection?

As an aside, we're all volunteers here, so we generally don't respond well to people telling us what we "have to" do.

I was on dial-up for Wednesday, Thursday & Friday. JavaRanch was one of the very few sites that was always usable.

Can you document this?
Run a program such as Fiddler and see what the load times are.

Have you cleared your cache lately? Have you tried other browsers?

JavaRanch goes just as fast as anything for me, both at work and home. Do you have any antivrus software/firewalls that might be slowing you down for some reason?

Fast for me too. I'm on an old computer with a fast connection. Pages load very quickly, including the "Reply" page.

Don't be too quick to assume it's the network, a slow computer can just as easily affect performance. On this old machine, for instance, having multiple tabs open severely degrades performance. You might check CPU/RAM usage while waiting for a page to load: if CPU usage sits at 100% while you're waiting for the page to load, that's probably not a network issue.

Hi,

when I read Nishan's post yesterday I thought the same as all of you, since I've never encountered performance problems on the Ranch.

But today I face the same issues. It took me nearly a minute to open the reply page, my first reply was totally lost...

All other browser windows work as usual, CPU is bored,...

Maybe it's a random phenomenon? And Nishan just had bad luck?

Due to various circumstances the Ranch is currently running on a backup server (see Service Interruptions), and that's not going so smoothly (or fast) as running on the main server. But we'll migrate back to the main server soon, probably by the weekend, and then things will go back to normal.

But again, that's a recent thing -since last week- and before that the site has been humming along nicely.
