Can someone please help me to understand following code-

The above code compiled fine.
long is 8 bytes, float is 4 bytes. Then how it is possible to assign l to f?

It's allowed because the Java Language Specification says so: 5.1.2 Widening Primitive Conversion

But you will indeed loose information because a long is 64-bit and a float is only 32-bit.

It needs a lot of explanation regarding Integer/Floating-point representation,
however, I will try to put it in short.
Just try to print:

OR
read java.lang.Float & java.lang.Long
