The SpeedTester is amazing but why Google wants to lock me with Chrome?
Why SpeedTester isn't a standalone application?
Recently I got the feeling that Google is becoming the next MSFT.

Mac users can confirm, but I think Safari already has this feature. FF might have a plugin, haven't looked yet. For me IE doesn't exist, so no comments there.
I think Google guys are smart. They will learn from other people's mistakes. I would not worry much...for now.

I didn't check it yet but if GWT 2 "Declarative User Interfaces" delivers what it says, I'm going to be GWT-holic.

Sorry but what do you mean by "Mac users can confirm, but I think Safari already has this feature." ?

No. The feature is already built in Safari.

http://code.google.com/webtoolkit/speedtracer/get-started.html
Speedtracer analyzes the loading time for individual resources. A similar feature exists in Safari

Well they removed Hosted mode in place of testing in regular web browser (finally!) but I've since lost the ability to test, now getting the error in the browser:

"GWT module '....' needs to be (re)compiled, please run a compile or use the Compile/Browse button in hosted mode"

Update: All fixed now, just had to right-click on the project and go to the Google menu to compile it. Would have thought it compiled automatically with hosted mode gone but I guess not.

FYI: Firefox users will need to download a plugin to run in development mode. It prompts you for it the first time you try to run it in the browser.
