how to compile java prog (there is only one dos not xp,98 ...any)?

there is only one dos(disk operating system)?
classpath is set.
when i say javac first.java --->it says javac not recognised command
what to do in this situation

You should
add
java
home to your DOS path
Means if you have java installed on C:\java
then C:\java\bin should be added to PATH

(Is there even a Sun-based Java for DOS-only systems any more?)
