Hi,
I know Oracle recently finished its acquistion of SUN Microsystems.
I went to look up some information on the SUN website and it redirected to Oracle.
Does anyone know how long ago the change was made?
I wonder what other changes are in store (other than more lay-offs).
I'm just curious.
-Thanks

All kinds of suck, in my opinion; Oracle's styles are ugly.

I agree, the new site isn't as good as the old one.
It's probably an indicator of things to come.
Hey, they might change the certifications and make it as confusing as the new Microsoft ones: MCIT-???
LOL-

well, yet i don't know what may oracle change ( so far, all changes are disappointing ) as it bought sun, they closed the SAI program the dismissed Sang Shin the owner of the javapassion.com and no one knows what are they going to do worse than these things.

what i am surprised about, is that you don't find much discussions or rejection of Oracle's changes with Sun courses when you search the internet. at the beginning i thought that i storm of refusing and objections will be raised by developers and java trainees , but every thing went silently. let's hope that they keep the java tutorial available online.

I always found the Sun site un-navigable and impossible to use. I'm sure Oracle will make it even worse.

+1 , Oracle-Sun site looks very bad.. they need to hire good designer...
now the certification course might be changed to OCJP ! which sounds ugly.. SCJP (prefix S is more suitable in all ways..).
Lets see what Larry (Oracle CEO) will do for exams and tutorial.
My friend told me JDevloper is Oracle product, this makes me feel like Net beans Project will be closed by Oracle.

Just a week or two weeks ago, there was the announcement that the European Union agreed with Oracle taking over Sun, and almost immediately there were Oracle logos on http://java.sun.com

Never. NB is far more superior than JDev, even IMHO, its more intuitive than Eclipse. (I'm not starting any IDE war, here )

I think, MySQL is not going to anywhere, what about the millions of PHP based web app.

AFAICT, no pages redirect except for the www.sun.com home page. And more importantly, all URLs to java.sun.com still work (and I would be very surprised if they stop working any time soon).

When was the last time that you really needed to care about which JVM you were running? Why do you think it will have a problematic impact? If anything, the JVM should get better in due time.

Oracle is in the process of merging the accounts. Check your inbox for the mail providing the details.

Anybody who uses JOGL or any other Java OpenGL binding that uses JAWT will care, a lot. A whole lot. Me being one of them.

Very recently I was in a situation that I had to explore on JVM's other than HotSpot. But my question was more in the lines of "If Oracle would keep the JVM OpenSourced" or will it also follow the Oracle database footsteps where you end up paying for usage.

It seems now the certification pages have also been merged into the oracle format. They now have the look and feel of Oracle certifications. Just noticed it only now. Maybe they were ported along with the rest of the page.
