Greetings all,

I am about to plunk down my $200, but looking at the assignment list, I wonder -- is there more? Anything past the DB stuff? Threading? exception handling? process control, messaging systems, what I would need to know to build a complex java system (e.g., jedit, web application, etc).

Is is worth it? Am I being cheap? Am I posting to the wrong forum/group?

That sort 'o thing.

Comments, corrections, critiques, cash, crumpets, commentary, chatter, welcome.

Thanks.

Threading - no
Exception Handling - Assignment OOP 2
Process Control - no
Messaging Systems - if you're talking about JMS, RMI, or MDB stuff, not yet

Isn't JEdit an IDE? What does that have to do with learning Java?
Web Apps - I kinda think the Servlets and JDBC assignments give you a leg up on those. EJB assignments have not yet been written.

As to whether or not it's worth $200, I think it is. Lots of other people do too. On the other hand, some people never completed the first 8 assignments, so I suppose they didn't think it was worth the money.

Hi Kilgore,

A warm welcome to Cattle Drive.

Is is worth it? Am I being cheap? Am I posting to the wrong forum/group?
Here come the decision-making. Before I signed up, I did ask myself the same questions: What do I achieve? Does it worth $200?

For my case, I wanted to see what other possibilities could my code be further improved. It's not difficult to write a working code. But to write a good readable and maintainable code is a different story. Furthermore, different people may have different opinions on writing code, so it's a good idea to see how the instructor's solutions look like. You may have different reasons for signing up.

As whether $200 is justified. IMO, I believe it's. Why? There are about 21 assignments at the moment. And the nitpickers need to spend time to review our code. For an assignment, the student may need to submit more than once if the nitpicker is not satisfied.

$200 may not be small sum for other people. So you really have to ask yourself carefully, what do you want to achieve? Are there any alternatives?

Mr Trout, if indeed that is your real name, which I kinda doubt unless your parents were fanatical Vonnegut groupies. Which is a possibility, I suppose.....
Or perhaps you yourself decided to make the change. At any rate, if you do decide to plunk down $200.00 American, please sign up under your real name.
