Found this on the web...

http://www.walkscore.com/

It looks interesting. My score was 94 out of 100. Of course, that's one of the advantages of living in a big city -- you can walk everywhere.

I thought you were referring to something a mate posted on facebook regarding: "How far did you walk today, a scale from zero to Lord of the Rings?"

Even though I live in a city, I'm in the outskirts.

There database needs some help. For my home, under 'movie theatres', they list Kirkwood Cinema as being .65 miles away. That is correct, however the building was converted into condos about 10 years ago. They list Swank Audiovisuals as well, which is a video production company, not a theatre.

Otherwise, I got a 66%.

Hey, that's two points up from your score in 2007. Did you move?

That's why this site looks so familiar !! I could have sworn I did this previously ....

Nope. Didn't move. And from looking at the listings, there isn't much difference from the neighborhood either -- except maybe a couple of restaurants changing hands.

My goodness. Mine is a 68; trying an address that's right in the "downtown" of our little New Urbanist community (about a quarter-mile away) gives an 82. I don't think I could stand to live somewhere that scored even that high these days, let alone higher.

63. One of the reasons we moved to where we live is that it has a "walkable downtown" (which isn't that common here in the Detroit suburbs).

I also got a 94. (I live half a mile from Henry so this isn't a big surprise.)

And I did move since 2007 to be nearer to the subway so it makes sense mine went up.

One small issue that I have with it, is that the quality is not taken into account.

For example, there are 6 restaurants within 0.1 mile from me, which probably gave me a big score. However, I don't really go to these places, as they are only so-so. The good neighborhood restaurants that I do go to, that are still walkable, but are between a quarter to a half mile away.

The same is true for the drug store. The one that I go to is 1/3 mile away -- but it is sixth on the list (so I got credit for 5 drug stores which I don't use).

Of course, I am now nitpicking...

Nice! My score makes sense for a smaller town, but I live in a city of about 30,000 people. I guess I live in the bad walking neighborhood.

Looks like I am top at the list, so far, with score of 97.

I got this tall by not having enough crisco in my diet as a kid. This ad looks like it had plenty of shortening:
