Hi Bilal,

...what are the concepts behind JasperReports?

e.g. is it based on Universes like other tools?

Cheers,

Gian

The concept of Universes is used in Business Objects.

A universe is a layer between the database and the
actual reports that indirectly query the database through
it: it hides the actual database structure from the reports.

I see. Then the answer is "no" :) A cursory read of the JasperReports tutorial should answer high-level questions like that; I'd recommend checking it out.

thanks

...I have to disagree with the high levelness :)
because it is really about the nuts & bolts of
the tool and consequently what skills one needs
to develop reports.

If I understood correctly from the tutorial, Jasper
adresses the data source in a more direct
fashion compared to BO.

Cheers,

Gian

Whether or not JR is abstracted from the DB, particularly in using a specific concept, is about as high-level as you could get.

Hi Dave,

As you wish, it is a matter of interpretation.

At the end of the day one needs to implement
a universe or an xml file.

Cheers,

Gian

No matter. Try again. Fail again. Fail better. This time, do it with this tiny ad:
