I have a new blackberry and am looking into tethering it. It will only be used in a pinch, when I find myself without any internet connection, and really really need to get something out -- and is willing to use the cell phone data plan to do it.

AT&T offers tethering for a monthly fee. Considering that I will only use it in an emergency, this seems to be a bit hard to justify.

Anyway, I have heard that there are vendors that have software that will do this -- one time charge, no monthly fee. So, any recommendations?

Thanks,
Henry

If you only use it occasionally, there's an app that should work for you:

Tether.

You can get it on Crackberry.com -- it's a little pricey, but it works through your phone's data plan so as long as you're not on it 24x7 and spending hundreds of dollars on iTunes, you should be fine. I got mine half off during a deal of the day on crackberry..... there's other sites that offer discounts.

Go to tether.com and try it. I think it is $50 and no monthly fee. I was getting something like 1 megabit download speed in town - not bad!

Yeah. Definitely need to try it. Crackberry shows lots of great reviews, but it also shows many people who can't get it working.
