Cloning parent to get a child class instance ?

Hi All,

Can a parent class instance be cloned to get the child class instance ?

i.e., consider :

Can? Possibly. Should? Heck no!

Any super (parent) class should know nothing of any of its sub (child) classes.

Moreover, if the parent is cloneable, the child is also cloneable..

Simply use:

If you want to get that effect, it should be the subclass doing the work. For instance, you could give the subclass a constructor that takes an instance of the superclass as an argument.
