Passed part 1 of the SCEA today.
64 questions, and I got 70%. 56% minimum is required to pass.
I studied for 2 weeks using:
java.boot.by study guide
Cade/Shell Study Guide
Head First Java Patterns
JEE5 Tutorial for filling the blanks on stuff the study guide didn't go into detail about JEE technology stack.
Core J2EE Design Pattern's website (Didn't buy the book). If you worked with JEE, the JEE design patterns are pretty easy to understand.

only area i really screwed up was security, which was because i didn't put enough focus on it.

i say areas to focus on:
Integration (JMS, JAX-WS)
Security
EJBs
JPA
Design Patterns
practice tests i bought from oracle (only 65 bucks to help assess my deficiencies)

the study guides and tests will help you figure out what you don't and do know. I put so much time into design patterns, that i neglected other simpler things (technology stack, ejbs, security)

good luck and thanks you to OPs for your recommendations on what to study!

time to finish part 2 and 3, roughly 2 months to the 3k deadline!
