The straight double quotes can be escaped by giving \".But,for curly double quotes or smart double quotes it does not work.
When I tried to save a form with “smart” ,the code takes it as “smart”,thus the method indexOf (String string) does not recognize this smart quote. Can I know how to escape these smart double quotes?

These quotes are completely different characters. There is no need to quote them, but to find them using indexOf you must use those characters themselves; you can't use ".
