Why does this not need a cast.

Just curios. Why does this method not need a cast?

class First{
	public Object method1(){
		return new String("Base");
	}

    public static void main(String[] args){
                First f = new First();
		f.method1();
     }
}

It will need if you do String name = f.method1();

Line 03 doesn't need a cast because String is a subclass of Object. You can always assign an object to a variable which is a supertype of the object's type.

Line 07 doesn't need a cast because First and First are the same type. No requirement for casting there.
