Everyone knows that if you are going to operate a business in today’s world you need a domain name. It is advisable to look at the domain name selected as others see it, and not just as you think it looks. Failure to do this may result in situations such as the following (legitimate) companies who deal in everyday humdrum products and services that clearly didn’t give their domain names enough consideration:

1. A site called ‘Who Represents‘ where you can find the name of the agent that represents a celebrity. Their domain name… wait for it… is
www.whorepresents.com

2. Experts Exchange, a knowledge base where programmers can exchange advice and views at
www.expertsexchange.com

3. Looking for a pen? Look no further than Pen Island at
www.penisland.net

4. Need a therapist? Try Therapist Finder at
www.therapistfinder.com

5. Then of course, there’s the Italian Power Generator company…
www.powergenitalia.com

6. And now, we have the Mole Station Native Nursery, based in New South Wales:
www.molestationnursery.com

7. If you’re looking for computer software, there’s always
www.ipanywhere.com

8. Welcome to the First Cumming Methodist Church. Their website is
www.cummingfirst.com

9. Then, of course, there’s these brainless art designers, and their whacky website:
www.speedofart.com

10. Want to holiday in Lake Tahoe? Try their brochure website at
www.gotahoe.com

I saw a story earlier today about the city of Cedar Rapids just released an app for the iPhone/iPad. it is already being laughed at for being knows as the C.R. app...

They claim it is actually getting them a lot of word-of-mouth advertising, so it worked out OK for them...

I did not notice it at first. But, I visited the expertsexchange page and was working on another monitor, writing some use case for my project. Suddenly I noticed that the mozilla bar at the bottom saying expertsexchange truncated [ yeah...you are right, just upto that point ]. I was like OMG,..what did I open at offic e...and when I looked at it, I got the irony of this post .

Nice one .

I was thinking about this when reading Bear's original post.

For those not in the know, Tobias is a character from the TV show "Arrested Development". He is a licensed psychological analyst AND therapist - hence the portmanteau of "analrapist"

(emphasis is on the 2nd and 4th syllables)

Tobias: It's not pronounced like it's spelled.
Buster: It's not the spelling that's worrying me.

I call shenanigans on First Cumming Methodist. I could believe First Coming though.

1) A bank that I used to visit to do business with my credit union was named Washington Telephone Federal Credit Union. At their branch office, they had this sign in bold green

WTF CU

They changed their name to Signal Federal Credit Union. I am glad they didn't change it to Signal Telephone Federal Union

2) Our company outsources our internal community site to a company called Jive. So, our community site is

xxxx.jivesbs.com

It's suppossed to be "Jive SBS", but I read it as "Jives BS"

Remember, it isn't alwsys just domain names, but you do have to think ahead. In southern California there is a place called Phelan. Pronounced like "Feeling" without the g. They named their Highschool and College "Serrano" to avoid sounding like "Feelin High" and "Feelin U."

Their website is actually
http://www.snowlineschools.com/schools/

I'll be ... well, you know. It's actually Cumming First United Methodist, but that's worse if anything. However, their domain name is cfumcga.com. Maybe the site was getting defaced too often and they changed it.

I say an ad in trade magazine for Via Graphix - but the URL made me think that their medication was broken:
