I want to connect to my unix box through a UI designed in java the protocol being telnet.

What do you want to do with the connection? If you want to open a user interface that's running on the Unix box, that's not going to work. Telnet doesn't support user interfaces. If you only want to send commands and read the result of those commands, check out Apache Commons Net. It has a Telnet client.
